Alabama in the Making | Alabama Folklife Association

Kelton Design worked with the Alabama Folklife Association to develop and produce a traveling exhibit highlighting folk traditions in Alabama.

The AFA collects oral histories which are stored at the Alabama Department of Archives and History. Kelton Design edited the oral histories into one-minute sound bites and delivered them to the public on iPad. There is one iPad station for each region of the state:

•Tennessee Valley
• Southern Appalachians
• Wiregrass
• Black Belt
• Gulf Coast

Reclaimed barn wood, corrugated metal, and canvas prints were used to retain a rustic aesthetic.

The client asked that the exhibit travel from one venue to another in a simple and economic way.  Therefore, all exhibit components were designed to pack together to fit inside the back of a medium sized cube truck.
